It is was wedding week. I know, that sounds super depressing…and it really is a crummy feeling knowing that we would be leaving Disneyland today to drive down to my happy place, La Jolla, California for wedding week. So, to cope with that disappointment, I’m going to continue to look at some film photographs that I took on our most recent trip out to the west coast.
There is something so timeless and beautiful about life captured on film. I love the exposure range that film has, I love the colors that film produces in its images (and I love playing around with the different colors and tones that different film stocks produce), and I love (and kinda hate) the delayed gratification that comes with film photography. The colors of downtown La Jolla compliment film so well, and looking at the rich oranges, greens, whites, and creams make my artist soul happy.
La Jolla is my happy place because it’s equal parts fancy-pants + laid back/easy going. The architecture is well-designed, well-kept, and has a cute urban coastal vibe…It is seriously a photographer’s dream (or maybe just this photographer’s dream HA!). La Jolla has a small town feel that is so cozy. If I could afford it (and if my entire extended family wasn’t on the east coast), I would move here in a heartbeat!
Estancia La Jolla hotel and spa is my favorite home away from home. I’ve been in love with this place ever since I first stepped onto the grounds (or ever since that first time Beau and I maybe-kinda snuck in and wandered around). The cream-colored walls, muted green cacti and succulents that sprinkle the property, multiple floral garden areas, lush walkways, not to mention the heated pool/hot tub, are some of my favorite things about this place…oh, and the free bottle of wine that they give you just for staying there (um, yes please!). Since we can’t be there this week, I’m just going to keep looking at these images, making photo albums with them, and closing my eyes to pretend that we are there instead of in my house for the millionth day in a row. One day soon we will meet again, Estancia La Jolla!
