TEN
Lila is ten years old today, which means that I’ve been a mom for an entire decade…a mom to this spunky, full-of-life, loud, funny, determined, focused, and goal-crushing little girl. Because she is my first baby, each birthday hits me a little harder than the last. I am so proud of how she’s grown up and who she is becoming, but I can’t help but mourn the little girl in her that I see slowly fading away with each passing day. She has always been very independent (pretty much a clone of myself in almost every way), but seeing the list of things that she is able to do completely on her own growing daily, I sometimes find myself wishing for those days where she needed me a *little* more (although I still stand firm in my willingness to fast-forward through those early toddler years!).
She makes me so proud every.single.day. She is one of the most determined and focused kids that I know, and if she sets her mind on something, she works as hard as she possibly can to achieve that goal. She is committed to her sport in a way that many nine/ten year olds couldn’t fathom and isn’t afraid to try new things (she got a pretty big part in her school’s 4th/5th grade play for a fourth grader!). She isn’t naturally awesome at school, but she knows when she needs to work harder and is more self-motivated than I was at that age. I love this girl more than she’ll ever know :).
I say it every year, but I seriously cannot believe that she is ten! Where is that time-stopping button???!!!
